As a bookkeeper, I work with lots of business owners to help in all these situations. Sometimes, you need someone to take the pressure away so you can concentrate on what you know best; your business!
Bookkeepers are financial professionals (usually with recognised bookkeeping qualifications) who keep up-to-date financial records for their clients including sole traders, small businesses, charities and voluntary organisations. Some bookkeepers are also contracted by accountants for administrative support and help preparing annual accounts.
Bookkeepers record details of sales income and purchases check transactions against bank statements, reconcile ledgers, prepare wages and payroll documents and manage expense claims - amongst others.
Some provide a financial administration service for their clients, chasing late payments, preparing financial statements and reports and paying suppliers. Bookkeepers also typically help complete self assessment tax and VAT returns and check that accounts are accurate.
